A Lament for Israel
Oh Israel, as a child I learnt you were my Holy Land
That God had chosen to walk your plains and hills
Rich in milk and honey, and the Blood of the Lamb.
Oh Israel
How could you become so hard a land
Of a life for a eye,
A life for a limb,
Death of a family for the gift of a martyr?
Oh Israel
A thousand times your cruelty shall descend
On your sons who are blind,
to the blood streaming over their good motives.
Oh Israel
Your hands desecrate the very metals of your guns. You have no hands to threw a stone
Oh Israel,
How could your people elect brutal men?
What fate have you set upon your land?
Oh Israel
Why do they fight so cruelly
for you
When
All your land is Holy?
Is the Veil before your Face
opaque?
Should not your Love be in your Face
In Us
And our children?
Oh Israel,
If your leaders are too cruel
God will find allies
Your cruelty will come to an End
Your rocks will rise up,
Your trees
The insects under your feet.
The spirit of God in them
I call on He who Breathed Me,
On His Family
The lovers of justice, of forgiveness.
With them, with this great army
I rise up
I call on fire and earth, on air and water.
I call upon the God who Dwells in the Land
I cry out with to the Nameless One
The Wondrous One
The One who Loves Us
And who Made Us
Purge our Evil
End this War
Give us Strength
Teach us
to be
Your
Own
